Minimum RRIF withdrawal factors are prescribed by the CRA and based on January 1 balance and age. You may withdraw more than the minimum at any time, subject to withholding tax. RRIF withdrawals are fully taxable as income.

What is the RRIF Minimum Withdrawal Calculator?

When you convert your RRSP to a RRIF (mandatory by age 71), the government requires minimum annual withdrawals based on prescribed CRA factors applied to your January 1 balance. Withdrawals are fully taxable as income. Using your younger spouse's age can reduce the minimum withdrawal percentage, allowing more tax-deferred growth.

Formula

Minimum Withdrawal = RRIF Balance × Prescribed Factor%. The factor is set by CRA for each age — e.g., 5.40% at age 72.
