What is the Kirchensteuer-Rechner?
Kirchensteuer is collected by the state on behalf of registered churches. It is calculated as a percentage of your income tax — not your income. Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg charge 8%; all other German states charge 9%. It is withheld alongside income tax via payroll and appears on your payslip.
