Germany's standard VAT rate is 19%. The reduced rate (7%) applies to food, books, newspapers, public transport, and cultural services. Some supplies (medical, financial) are VAT-exempt.
What is the Mehrwertsteuer-Rechner?
Mehrwertsteuer (MwSt) is Germany's value-added tax. The standard rate is 19% (Regelsteuersatz). A reduced rate of 7% (ermäßigter Steuersatz) applies to essential items including food, books, newspapers, museums, and local public transport. Businesses registered for VAT charge MwSt to customers and remit it to the Finanzamt.
