Minijob limit from October 2022 is linked to the minimum wage. At €12.82/hour minimum wage (Jan 2025), the monthly limit is €556. Employees are automatically enrolled in pension insurance but can opt out (Befreiungsantrag). Earnings above €556/month create a Midijob.

What is the Minijob-Rechner?

A Minijob (geringfügige Beschäftigung) is a part-time job where earnings do not exceed €556/month in 2025. Employees pay no income tax or health insurance contributions (covered by employer flat-rate). The employer pays around 30% in flat-rate pension (15%), health (13%), and tax (2%) contributions on top of the wage. Employees are enrolled in pension insurance by default but can opt out.

Formula

Employee net = Earnings − employee pension (~3.6% unless opted out). Employer cost = Earnings × ~30% flat rate on top.
E
= Monthly earnings (≤ €556)
r_pension
= 3.6% employee pension (if not opted out)

Frequently asked questions

What is the Minijob limit in 2025?

€556/month (€6,672/year) in 2025. The limit is tied to the statutory minimum wage: 10 hours/week × 52 weeks × minimum wage ÷ 12.

Does a Minijob affect my main job taxes?

A Minijob alongside a main job is treated as a second job (Steuerklasse VI) only if it is a second Minijob. The first Minijob remains tax-free for the employee.

What is the difference between a Minijob and a Midijob?

A Midijob earns €556.01–€2,000/month. In a Midijob, the employee pays proportionally reduced social security contributions — not zero.
