Common questions about Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana - Rs 5,000 Monthly Calculator
When can I withdraw from SSY?
Full withdrawal at age 21 (account maturity) or on marriage after age 18. Partial withdrawal (up to 50% of previous year end balance) is allowed after the girl turns 18 for higher education expenses. Premature closure is allowed for life-threatening illness of account holder, or death of the guardian. No premature withdrawal for general financial needs.
What happens if I miss a year of SSY deposit?
Minimum deposit in SSY is Rs 250/year. If you miss a year (deposit nothing), the account becomes irregular. To regularize, pay Rs 50 penalty per missed year plus the minimum Rs 250 deposit. The account can be regularized within the 15-year deposit window. After regularization, interest continues to accrue normally on the balance.
Can I open SSY for an adopted daughter?
Yes. SSY can be opened for a legally adopted girl child. You need to provide the adoption deed/legal documentation at the time of account opening. The age calculation starts from the girl's actual birth date (even if adoption happened later). Same deposit limits and tax benefits apply.
