How do I calculate someone's exact age?
Take the current date and subtract the date of birth. Account for month and day: if the current month/day is before the birth month/day this year, subtract one from the years. The remainder gives you months and days precisely. This calculator handles the edge cases (leap years, different month lengths) automatically.
Why does age calculation need leap years?
Leap years add February 29 every 4 years (with exceptions: century years like 1900 are not leap unless divisible by 400). If your date range crosses leap days, naive (365-day) arithmetic will be off by up to a few days. Good calculators use calendar-aware date math.
Can I use this for school age eligibility?
Yes. Indian school admissions typically require the child to be 5 years old as of 31 March or 30 June of the admission year (varies by state and school). Enter your child's DOB and the cutoff date to see the exact age as of that date. KVS and CBSE schools publish their exact cutoff annually.
